Life after death and interdimensional spirits

Experiences | Reincarnation

1. First there is believing

Should one believe in faerie, natural spirits, life after death - rebirth and reincarnation or in spirits waiting to cross over and begin a new life after, in a different place or a different dimension? What are ghosts, or spirits who manifest and communicate with the living in some way? What actually happens, and will we ever truly know? Can we believe those people who report near death experiences and go to some light but come back, or see a faerie, or are stolen? The author has discussed the subject of reincarnation broadly in a blog entitled The Catholic Church rejection of reincarnation and karma (Organ 2023). However, herein individual instances of encounters with post-death spirits by the author are revealed, along side those with beings and creatures from the faerie realm. Do they prove there is life after death, or that faerie exist? Well, actually ..... yes.

It is a fact that most people don't believe in such things because they either have no experience, or they refuse to believe what they have seen, heard, been told, or experienced themselves. There can also be religious and societal impediments to believing, or publically expressing a belief in such things. This is also often due to simple naivety, and the author is one such example. He was raised a Catholic, but did not have any significant experience, or understanding, of the phenomena of life after death or faerie through a substantial part of his life. Some people are naturally attuned to a wider spectrum of supernatural energy, or the paranormal, whilst others are not. They can see and hear things, and often make conscious decisions as to if, how, and to what degree they will engage with this energy.

The author is one of those who is - fortunately or unfortunately - almost totally tuned out to such energies, though also a believer in their existence, if somewhat skeptical. This belief is based on what has been read and what has been told first-hand, but not because of what has necessarily been experienced, which is in fact very limited.

It is recognised that people speak truthfully in regards to their experiences concerning life after death and faerie encounters. As a Catholic, the author was raised to believe in heaven, hell and purgatory; that after you died you went somewhere and that was basically the end of it, as you waited for the end of time and the coming of God into the world and the rebirth of your physical body and soul. He also read numerous books containing fairy / faerie stories, myths and legends, science fiction and other forms of fantasy . This view was in conflict with Buddhist philosophy and the concepts of karma and rebirth, or reincarnation. The latter is something not dealt with, or supported, by the modern-day Catholic church, but it explains a lot in regards to the process of existence in that period between death of the body and possible rebirth. The revelation of this discrepancy, or gap in core belief between Buddhism and Christianity, and the author's own long-held belief in life after death, was only revealed to him during 2023 and gave rise to the aforementioned blog on the subject (linked above).

Due to an ever inquiring mind and asperges nature, over time the author sought out, and discovered, numerous published reports and stories written about encounters with individuals who have died and not disappeared from this earth, such that there was no reason not to believe in what the reports said. As such, an open mind about such things developed, though for a long, long time there was no direct experience, despite being open to people who talked about encounters with the afterlife, or directly experienced them. That changed during 1988 when the author was confronted with evidence that was found difficult to reject. That, and a few other subsequent instances of personal encounters with beings on a spiritual plane, are described below.

2. Captain Otway 1836 / 1988

One day during 1988 I was sitting in the Illawarra Historical Society Museum in Wollongong when in came a lady aged about 50 - a Mrs Dunn. She asked me if I knew anything about the history of the local area, and I said yes. She then proceeded to tell me the following story.

>Mrs Dunn was resident at the Crossroads, near the intersection of Crown Street, Mount Keira Road and the Dapto road, just west of the town of Wollongong. She outlined how she was regularly visited by a male spirit - she was not afraid, and said he was harmless. The spirit would come into her house and rearrange shoes. She said he was a relatively young man who had committed suicide and his name was Henry. He was a soldier. She said she also felt the present of an ancient Aboriginal spirit in the area of her house.

All of this struck a chord with me. The Crossroads was an historic part of the city. Prior to the arrival of European settlers after 1815 the area was a natural gathering point for the local Aboriginal people and visitors. It was a ceremonial ground and the flat area on the top of the hilly, with important tracks radiating out from it in numerous directions, added to its significance. For this reason the Aboriginal spirit was in place and strong. In regards to Henry - well, that was another story.

Following what Mrs Dunn related to me, I immediately made a connection with the so-called ghost of Ghost Creek, with was a creek located directly due south of Mrs Dunn's house, on the road to Dapto. Since the arrival of Europeans, stories of ghosts had been present in the area. Based on the information provided by Mrs Dunn, it appeared that the ghost in question was none other than Lieutenant Henry Maxwell Otway who was stationed at the Illawarra Stockade in 1836. Apparently one evening, possibly during late March of that year, Lt. Otway returned to the stockade at the Crossroads drunk and challenged the guard on duty. This was an act by an officer which would be subject to disciplinary action. On 1st April he was replaced at the Crossroads Stockade by Lt. Sheaffe. Otway was so shamed by the event that on 10 April he took his own life, when he jumped into the ocean off Wollongong headland. This event was recorded in the annals of Wollongong history. Mrs. Dunn was not aware of it when she visited the Museum, however upon being informed of the story of Lt. Otway she confirmed that the spirit visiting her was him. It is obvious that Henry had not passed over since his death and was haunting the area around the Crossroads until his "unfinished business" was dealt with. The story of Lt. Otway and the account by Mrs. Dunn tied in so closely that there was no reason not to believe that the ghost of Ghost Creek, Wollongong, was the unfortunate lieutenant. It also was the first time that I had such strong corroboration in my belief in spirits and the afterlife. I had seen Hollywood movies such as It's a Wonderful Life 1946 and Beetlejuice 1988 which had dealt with this subject, and it just reinforced those views. I was open to the next encounter or account.

3. Ariane 2007-8

A voice .... I have never heard voices before. No one from the afterlife had ever spoken to me in my 41 years on the planet prior to 2007. However things change. During that year I had separated from my first wife Jeanette, though I was living downstairs at our rented house in Thirroul. One night I felt a presence and in the room next to mine I distinctly heard a voice say "Michael". I was pretty sure it was that of Ariane, a young friend of mine who had tragically died from cancer on 27 April 2007. She was only 27. Ariane was a mature spirit - a follower of Tibetan Buddhism and the Dharma. I firmly believed that she had lived before and would live again, such was the wisdom of her ways and an important element of her belief. As a result of hearing the voice I felt at the time that her spirit was waiting to be reborn, and had visited me in the interim. We had enjoyed a close relationship beginning in 2001 when she walked up to me one day and said: "I had a dream about you..." This relationship had faded during the previous 2 years and the time of the onset of her illness. It is possible, nevertheless, that her spirit had remained close.

A presence ... During 2008 I was down the beach at Sandon Point, sitting on a grassy ledge at the edge of the sand, looking out at the ocean. It was a grey day, with waves gently crashing amidst the white foam. Suddenly I felt an invisible spirit / energy rush down from the sky, on to the sand of the earth, and then shoot off northward along the ground to some place near, perhaps. It was a strange, very unique experience, and yet very real. Of this I have no doubt. At the time I was not sure what it meant, but I came to believe - understand? - feel - that this was Ariane being reborn and beginning a new life somewhere, as somebody else.

4. Denise 2015

My sister Denise Barr died on 13 January 2015. She had, over the 6 months prior to this, suffered from cancer and her final weeks were spent mostly in a drug coma, aimed at easing her pain during this period prior to death. The look on her face told us all that she was in pain, and her final passing was in reality a relief for the family. It was so sad to loose her, but we were now hopeful that she had found some peace in death.

We were comforted by the thought that Denise was finally united with her beloved husband Kieran who had passed away suddenly back in 1990. Denise was born in 1952 and her death at the age of 62 was untimely. She has many years of life before her, and there was a sense that she was taken before her time. Undoubtedly Denise felt this too, and she did not want to die; did not want to leave her family; did not feel it was her time to die. It was sad, and all the family felt this.

It seemed that as a result of this unfinished business, she lingered around her old home in Oceana Parade, Austinmer, and for a time was present when my family and I resided in Moore Street. Her manifestation was as a bright, indistinct energy. I did not see or feel any of this, though my partner at the time did, and on a number of occasions.

5. Terry 2016+

My brother Terry died tragically from a brain tumour on 22 July 2016. After this my partner at the time experienced numerous visitations from him in our house at Austinmer, similar to that of his sister Denise. These visits were often accompanied by the flickering of lights, both at Austinmer and elsewhere. In one instance the communication was specific in regard to the ill health of my 89 year old mother and her preparation for death - Terry was letting it be known that he was ready to receive her, according to the account I received.

6. Voices 2019

In April 2019 I was staying with my sick mother at Point Street, Bulli. One night, probably around 1 am, I distinctly heard a voice say to me "Hello!" The voice was as though next to me, just a few inches away, behind me as I lay in bed. It was the unknown voice of a male, about 50 years old. I have no idea who it was, though some suggested it was my brother Terry.

A couple of weeks later I heard a less distinct, and younger voice say "Michael" in the middle of the night. Around this time I also had the feeling of someone getting up off my bed as I lay in it. I never saw anything during these encounters, though I did look in the dark. They all occurred in the middle of the night and felt very real.

7. Wallabies 2023

Whilst riding my motorbike from Harden to Young one day in late June 2023, I was doing about 80 kph along a tree lined straight of tarred back road, with few other cars or vehicles around. All of a sudden I had a image in my mind of a small kangaroo or wallaby running across the road in from of me, from right to left. A second or two later I looked down at he side of the road to the left of me and saw that very same animal dead by the road. At the time I thought this inexplicable. Did I have a premonition, short though it may have been? There were no other wallabies by the side of the road, and the image plus the reality were intimately connected. I could only postulate that the energy of the animal crossing the road, just prior to being hit by a car, was what I saw. But that energy was of the immediate past, yet very, very real.

A month later, in late July 2023, I was riding my motorbike home from Yass to Harden. I turned off the Hume Highway at the Borowa back road exit, where in the speed limit dropped from 110kph to 50 kph. As I straightened the bike up, I saw a brown wallaby hop across the road in front of me about 20 metres away, moving from my right to left. As it left the road it kept hopping straight into the bush and disappeared in a few seconds. I noticed that it moved straight, and did not divert. A few seconds later I passed by the point at which it entered the bush and noticed that there was a wife fence extending from points both before and after the actual point of entry. The wire fence had about 5-6 strands, was about five feet tall, with less than a foot between each strand. The wallaby was as tall as the fence, or a little less. I soon realised that there was no way that it could have got through the wire fence, especially as it seem to me as though it was not impeded in any way in entering the bush at that point. The only explanation I could come up with as that the wallaby was a spirit animal, not of the human dimension, and therefore able to move through solid matter visible to me. It looked exactly like a normal wallaby, at least from afar. I must have belonged to the faerie realm.
